The artist couple Anne and Patrick Poirier (Anne Poirier, 1942 in Marseille; Patrick Poirier, born 1942 in Nantes), who describe themselves as "archaeologists" are famous for their poetic ruins installations. Both studied at the Ecole National Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in Paris. Their first significant solo exhibitions took place at Galerie Maenz Köln, 1972 and at Kunstverein in Hamburg and Lenbachhaus in Munich, 1974 ("Spurensicherung"). They participated at the Venice Biennale of 1976, 1980, 1984 and at the documenta 6 in Kassel, 1977.
