Dan Flavin (b. 1933, Jamaica/Queens, New York City; d. 1996, Riverhead, New York) was a leading figure in the minimalist movement alongside Donald Judd, Robert Morris and Sol LeWitt. He began using fluorescent tubes in his works in 1963. Dan Flavin studied at the Hans Hofmann School of Fine Arts, New School for Social Research, and Columbia University.
