OCT-LOFT is pleased to announce the launch of the 2nd Shenzhen Independent Animation Biennial from December 6, 2014 through March 6, 2015. OCT-LOFT is proud to announce the artists who will participate in the 2nd Shenzhen Independent Animation Biennial.
Since the foundation of Shenzhen Independent Animation Biennial, the main subject of this project has been the "Animation" in moving image art. At the same time, the operating mode of the biennial has been a network that emphasizes and constructs a local and international cooperation and dialogue. The 2nd Shenzhen Independent Animation Biennial consists of three major parts: Competition Program, Mobile Forums (Beijing, Hong Kong, Taipei and Shenzhen) and Themed Exhibition. In addition, this biennial aims to deepen the previous propositions and forms, and simultaneously to create a novel and interdisciplinary (film festival and biennial) working mechanism based on a platform of Shenzhen OCT-LOFT.
This Biennial will bring together 38 artists and artist group from ten countries and regions: Ian Cheng (USA), Cong Feng (China), Harun Farocki (Germany), Feng Mengbo (China), Kao Chung-Li (Taiwan), Ranbir Singh Kaleka (India), William Kentridge (South Africa), Jang Jongwan (R. O. Korea), Lee Yong-Baek (R. O. Korea), Lei Lei (China), Charles Lim (Singapore), Liu Wei (China), Jodie Mack (USA), Moon Kyungwon & Jeon Joonho (R. O. Korea), Qiu Anxiong (China), Hans Richter & Walther Ruttmann & Viking Eggeling & Rudolf Pfenninger & Berthold Bartosch & Lotte Reiniger & Oskar Fischinger (Germany), Lynne Sachs (USA), Hiraki Sawa (Japan), Lillian Schwartz (USA), Hito Steyerl (Germany), Su-Mei Tse (Luxembourg),WAZA (China); Pawel Wojtasik & Toby Lee & Ernst Karel (USA), Hsu Che-Yu (Taiwan),Yuan Goang-Ming (Taiwan), Zhou Tao (China), Zhou Xiaohu (China), and Zhu Jia (China). From the 1920s to present, the earliest work could date back to nearly 100 years ago.
Those works on display include experimental animations, documentary films, video art, new media, installations, live slide shows, etc. We could see that the exhibition contains almost all forms and representations of moving image art. The theme of "Visions" focuses on the "modern visions" of the moving pictures, while "Beyond" refers to the whole mechanism of images. The audience could not only encounter the aesthetics, politics and historical topics of the "Independent Animation," but more importantly, they could find out the possible thought and action (site) born from the exchange of self-experience and the subjects of the exhibited works.
Since its official launch on April 27 in Beijing, the 2nd Shenzhen Independent Animation Biennial has held various public activities including academic forums in Beijing, Hong Kong, and Taipei, a series of lectures, two master's workshops, etc., which arouses enthusiastic participation and heated discussion from numerous experts, scholars, curators and media. For the activities to be held from the opening since December 2014 to March 2015, we are all the same looking forward to a warm and committed public reception.
