A holi-city #05: Eilfried Huth, Die Beschwörung der Utopien

Der bekannte Grazer Architekt und Maler Eilfried Huth (Jg. 1930) wird das Thema Holismus mit dem des Utopischen räumlich und bildnerisch konfrontieren. Die komplexe Rauminstallation lädt den Besucher ein, sich mit Fragen der Selbstwahrnehmung, dem Utopischen und der Unendlichkeit des Raumes auseinander zu setzen. „Die Wahrnehmung der menschlichen Existenz wird durch Versuche einer Annäherung an zwei dominante Fluchtpunkte von jeher mitbestimmt. Der eine ist unsere Endlichkeit in der Unendlichkeit des Alls, der andere – Wunschhorizont – ist die empathische Globalisierung unserer Gesellschaft, eine Art radikaler holistischer Demokratisierung. Die Versuche dieser Annäherung kommen einer ständigen Beschwörung des Utopischen gleich.“ (E. Huth) Eilfried Huth wird seine Gedankenwelt in Schrift und Bild anhand ausgewählter utopische Projekte: Zellflex (1965), Stadt Ragnitz (1965-1969), Floraskin(1971), Medium Total (1969-79), sowie verwirklichter Projekte der Mitbestimmung und Beteiligung der Lebenswelt: Nur Armut hat Zukunft (1974), Eschensiedlung Deutschlandsberg (1972-1992) und Graz-Puntigam, Gerlitz-Gründe (1976-1982) neu vermitteln. Das „Logo“ der Erde an der Glasfront des A trans Pavilion soll die Verletzlichkeit unseres Planeten vor Augen führen und eine Einstimmung zur Thematik geben. Seine verpiegelten Seitenwände unterstützen den Fluchtpunkt-Gedanken.

Eilfried Huth (born in 1930), a well-known Graz architect and artist, exploits spatial and pictorial resources in order to confront the theme of holism with that of Utopia. The intricate installation invites viewers to grapple with questions of self perception and with the utopian and infinite character of space. “Perceptions of human existence have always been conditioned by efforts at rapprochement with two dominant vanishing points. The first is our own finitude in contradistinction with the boundlessness of the universe. The other (horizon of desire) is the empathic globalization of our society, a kind of radical and holistic democratization. Both of these attempts at rapprochement resemble a perpetual invocation of the utopian.” (E. Huth) Eilfried Huth seeks once again to convey his conceptual world in text and image by drawing upon selected utopian projects: Zellflex (1965), Stadt Ragnitz (1965-1969), Floraskin(1971), Medium Total (1969-79), as well as realized projects designed to codetermine and interact with the living environment: Nur Armut hat Zukunft (Only Poverty Has a Future; 1974), Eschensiedlung Deutschlandsberg (1972-1992), and Graz-Puntigam, Gerlitz-Gründe (1976-1982). The “ logo” of the earth displayed on the glass façade of the A trans Pavilion confronts visitors with our planet’s vulnerability while preparing for the themes being explored. The mirrored sidewalls reinforce Huth’s concept of the vanishing point.
