Invited Curators & International Collectors Programme 2020:

Art Dubai 2020 will see the return of the Invited Curators Programme, hosting some of the most distinguished institutional and independent curatorial voices from across the globe to a regional art encounter and perspective exchange workshop.

Following its successful inaugural edition in 2019, with over 120 professionals from across the globe attending, the Invited Curators Programme includes Museum Directors and Curators from some of the world’s most prominent museums, but also independent professionals working in key non-profit organisations and biennales that are delivering some of the most cutting-edge exhibitions globally.

Last year’s attendees included, among others, representatives from MoMA (New York, USA), Guggenheim (New York, USA), Tate (London, UK), The Art Institute of Chicago (Chicago, USA), Crystal Bridges (Arkansas, USA), Zeitz MOCAA (Cape Town, South Africa), Centre Georges Pompidou (Paris, France), Kiran Nadar Museum (Delhi, India), Kunsthalle Lissabon (Lisbon, Portugal), LUMA Arles (Arles, France) and M WOODS museum (Beijing, China). Local institutions invited to showcase their missions and programmes included the Jameel Arts Centre, Ishara Art Foundation, Tashkeel, the NYU Art Gallery, and Salama Bint Hamdan Al Nahyan Foundation.

“The trip was fantastic, and am very thankful to have participated in the Curators Programme! It is wonderful that such an opportunity exists to exchange ideas with colleagues and meet so many important curators, collectors, and galleries in the field on an international scale. I identified some great emerging artists that are important for my curatorial research.” Margot Norton, Curator, New Museum (New York).

In addition to the Curators Programme, Art Dubai’s International Collectors Programme will be extended in 2020 to include prominent and actively engaged art patrons, tastemakers and influencers, art collectors, owners of museums, private foundations, and committed patrons of important cultural initiatives from across the globe.

Last year’s fair edition saw over 130 collectors from over 30 countries hosted as part of the International Collectors Programme, offering attendees an extensive suite of exclusive events both at the fair and across the different Emirates. Comprised of bespoke trips to cultural sites, collection visits, artist studio visits and guided tours of major exhibitions, the programme is aimed at discovering the UAE’s many cultural offerings and the Gulf’s renowned hospitality.
