press release

VI, VII is pleased to announce Enjoy the Sun, Jochen Schmith's second solo exhibition at the gallery.

The works on view are picnic blankets carefully composed from shredded Euro bank notes, which the artists found in bags outside of a bank in Bregenz, Austria.

Each of the works presented represent a public garden or a park that has either recently, or in ancient times, been privatized. Titles of the works correspond to the results of a survey into leisure conducted by an architectural association and represent the way those polled prefer to make use of their free time.

The title of the exhibition was the survey's top response.

Jochen Schmith is collective based in Hamburg, Germany. Previous presentations and exhibitions include: Frieze London (2016) Present Gifts, VI, VII, Oslo (2014); Utopie beginnt im Kleinen, Triennale Kleinplastik Fellbach (2013); Andere Räume, Bundeskunsthalle Bonn (2012); Bleibender Wert?, Kunsthaus Bregenz (2012); Grand Openings Pt. 1, Mathew, Berlin (2011); Certain Arrangements, Haus Salve Hospes, Kunstverein Braunschweig (2010); News from Nowhere, WCW Gallery, Hamburg (2010).
