Pioneering conceptual photographer Robert Heinecken, best described by his own term “photographist,” passed away on May 19, 2006. To remember and honor this important figure who spent his last years in Chicago, the MCA presents the Are You Rea portfolio. Completed in 1968, these images, obtained by exposing magazine pages as if they were photographic negatives, are haunting commentaries on American society through their accidental juxtapositions of image and text. The exhibition is curated by MCA Curator Lynne Warren.
