The Void – Another Form of Romanticism

Die Galerie Philine Cremer freut sich, die neusten Arbeiten des Künstlers Xianwei Zhu (*1971, Beijing / Stuttgart) in seiner zweiten Einzelausstellung in der Galerie zu zeigen.

Mit der Ausstellung Xianwei Zhu: The Void – Another Form of Romanticism knüpft die Galerie Philine Cremer an die Ausstellung Soim Lees 21 Romanticism an. Anders als Soim Lee fokussiert Xianwei Zhu sein Re-Design der Romantik nicht auf die heutige Massenkommunikation, sondern besinnt sich vielmehr auf individuelle Erfahrung in und Auseinandersetzung mit der Natur. Xianwei Zhu lässt dabei unmittelbar seine persönliche Spurensuche auf den Wegen Hanshans im Tiantai Gebirge und Caspar David Friedrichs auf den Kreidefelsen Rügens einfließen, die maßgeblich die Stimmung seiner Arbeiten beeinflusst hat. In der geografischen Zusammenführung deutscher Romantik mit kompositorischen und philosophischen Elementen der chinesischen Maltradition erarbeitet er eine ungewöhnlich leichte, meditative Perspektive. Das hochgradig Atmosphärische seiner Arbeiten fußt auf der Leere der Komposition.

The Void – Another Form of Romanticism

Galerie Philine Cremer is delighted to show the latest works of Xianwei Zhu (*1971, Beijing / Stuttgart) in his second solo exhibition in the gallery.

The exhibition Xianwei Zhu: The Void – Another Form of Romanticism ties in with Soim Lee’s last exhibition in the gallery: 21 Romanticism. Other than Soim Lee, Xianwei does not base his re-design of Romanticism on today’s mass media, he rather expresses individual experience and examination of nature. Xianwei Zhu personally traced the paths of Hanshan in the Tiantai mountains and Caspar David Friedrich at the chalk cliffs of Rügen, which has noticeably impacted the atmosphere of his works. He elaborates an exceptional light and meditative perspective based on the geographical merger of German Romanticism with compositional as well as philosophical elements of the Chinese painting tradition. The strong atmosphere of his works is particularly created by conscious use of empty space – the void.
