André Derain (born 1880 in Chatou / Paris, died 1954 in Garches / Haut-de-Seine) was the co-founder of Fauvism. He was friends with Maurice de Vlaminck, Henri Matisse, Pablo Picasso, Guillaume Apollinaire, Georges Braque and Kees van Dongen. In 1905 he participated at the Salon d´Automne, Paris. In 1935 he had a retrospective at Kunsthalle Bern and 1937 a retrospective at Petit Palais in Paris.
