Chris Dercon

Chris Dercon (b. 1958, Lier / Belgium) is an art historian, a documentary filmmaker and cultural producer. On 1 January 2019 he becomes director of the Grand Palais in Paris. He was program Director at PS1 in New York; since 1990 he directed the Witte de With in Rotterdam; since 1996 the Boijmans Van Beuningen Museum in Rotterdam and 2003 until 2011 the Haus der Kunst in Munich. 2011 until 2016 he was Director of the Tate Modern in London. In 2017 he took over the directorship of the Berliner Volksbühne but put down this activity in 2018. Chris Dercon studied art history and drama at Rijksuniversiteit Leiden and film theory at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam.
