Eugène Delacroix (born 1798 in Saint-Maurice-Charenton/Paris, died 1798 in Paris) was a painter of the late Romantic era. He studied at the École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts de Paris. Famous works are 'Scenes of the Massacre at Chios' 1824; 'Reclining Odalisque' 1827; 'The Death of Sardanapalus' 1828; The 'Liberty Leading the People' 1830; The Women of Algiers (1834); 'Lion Hunt' 1861; Ovide among the Scythians (1862); amongst others.
