Lee Bontecou (born 1931 in Providence/Rhode Island) studied at Art Students League of New York and at Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture Maine. She was Professor at the Art Department Brooklyn College. She had exhibitions at Leo Castelli Gallery New York, Museum of Modern Art New York, Whitney Museum of American Art New York, Art Institute of Chicago, Museum Boijmans van Beuningen Rotterdam, Museum Morsbroich Leverkusen, Kunsthaus Zürich, Museum of Contemporary Art Los Angeles and participated at documenta 3 in Kassel (1964).
