Max Hollein is a curator, art critic and from summer 2018 director of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. He studied business administration and art history in Vienna. He was a freelancer for the "Standard", project director for exhibitions at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation, New York, director of the Schirn Kunsthalle Frankfurt since 2002, and also director of the Städel Frankfurt since 2006. From June 1, 2016, he was director of fine arts Museum of San Francisco.
