Michelangelo (Michelangelo Buonarroti, b. 1475, Caprese; d. 1564, Rome) was one of the most important artists of the Renaissance. He studied with Domenico Ghirlandaio and was guest of the Medici in Florence, from whom he repeatedly received orders for paintings. From 1505 he also carried out numerous papal orders in Rome. In 1534 he painted the interior of the Medici Chapel in Florence. In 1541 he finished the fresco "The Last Judgment" in the Sistine Chapel in Rome and in 1547 he was the Chief Architect of the St. Peter Dome.
