Nicolas Poussin (b. 1594, Villers-en-Vexin/Normandy, France; d.1665, Rome) was a Classicist and Baroque painter who lived in Rome. He painted heroic landscapes and mythological scenes and is considered a model of academic art doctrine. Significant works are: "Martyrdom of St. Erasmus", 1629 St. Peter, Rome; "Landscape with Orpheus and Eurydice", around 1650; "Four Seasons", 1664.
