Paul McCarthy (b. 1945, Salt Lake City/Utah), based in Los Angeles, is one of the most important and influential contemporary American artists. In his art he deals with the mechanisms of power, politics and desire. McCarthy studied at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles; at the San Francisco Art Institute and at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City.
