Tarsila do Amaral (b. 1886, São Paul – d. 1973) is a foundational figure in the history of modernism in Latin America. She studied piano, sculpture, and drawing in Brazil and then travelled to Paris to study at the Académie Julian. Afterwards she studied with André Lhote, Albert Gleizes, and Fernand Léger.
