What will be the impetus for World War Four? Local artists’ collective OODA Group explores this question in the next UBS 12 x 12: New Artists/New Work opening December 1, 2006, at First Fridays, at the Museum of Contemporary Art (MCA), Chicago. Massive white sculptural words, “World War Four,” consume nearly the entire gallery wall and floor space and appear to implode and converge at the precise center of the room. From outside the gallery, the text is illegible but becomes clear as the viewer approaches the middle of the room.

OODA is an acronym for Observation, Orientation, Decision, and Action, the terms of decision making often used in military or business strategy. Founded in 2004, the artists’ collective produces collaborative works of visual art, comics, music, and installation synthesizing concept and design. Two of the OODA artists, Shaun OwensAgase and Tyler Peterson, collaborate for the MCA’s textbased installation, conceived as a companion to the MCA’s exhibition, Massive Change: The Future of Global Design. The work addresses the potential struggle for global authority and its relationship to global consciousness.
