"A place, where we won´t be again" is a performance project, realized in the context of the 54th Venice Biennial, reflecting the evolution of the relationship between art and power in the context of post-Communist Bulgaria. A large part of Bulgarian national identity has developed in relationship to a consciousness of a historical deficit. For many in the Bulgarian art community the Venice Biennale is a utopian locus, representing both the Bulgarian absence from the rest of the world and the potential opportunity to symbolically overcome its historical invisibility. Throughout the history of the bienniale, Bulgaria has had only few, mostly incidental, official representations at Venice. This narrative of the (non)partizipation of Bulgaria at the world stage of contemporary art is now being retold by a traditional bulgarian "tresene" singer. This specific technique of story-telling works as a medium, popularising crucial issues of contemporary art and cultural policy. "A place, where we won´t be again" will be presented in frame of "Atlantis ´11" - a european network of independent art inititiatives between Berlin and Yerevan. www.atlantisprojects.eu
