Alice Guareschi

Castello di Rivoli Museo d’Arte Contemporanea is presenting a preview of the work of Alice Guareschi, winner of last year’s Fellowship. The work, which originated from the winning project for the last Fellowship for Young Italian Artists, is installed in room 38 on the third floor of the Castello. This video piece by the young Emilian artist (Parma, 1976, lives and works in Milan) is structured in four sections, beginning from four geographic places associated with basic colors: the White Sea, the Yellow Sea, the Red Sea and the Black Sea. The creation of the work required traveling through profoundly different settings. For each of the colors-seas the artist chose a workplace: Russia for the White Sea, China for the Yellow Sea, Eritrea for the Red Sea and Turkey for the Black Sea. Guareschi’s story of her travels, conceived as a continuous landscape, investigates fundamental questions such as direct experience and memory, space and the representation of places, the dimension of the voyage and summarizing research through the telling of the story. The winner of the 2009 Fellowship for Young Italian Artists will be announced on the occasion of this presentation. The selection of artist nominees includes Giorgio Andreotta Calò, Ettore Favini and Massimo Grimaldi. Previous Supporting Friends Fellowships were awarded to Grazia Toderi (2001), Alessandra Tesi (2002), Margherita Manzelli (2003), Lara Favaretto (2004), Gianni Caravaggio (2005) and Christian Frosi (2007). The presentation is taking place in conjunction with the international conference d documenta – a conference towards documenta 13.
