Anti-dog was the first UK solo project by Spanish artist Alicia Framis. It was the result of her collaboration with local people during a six-month residency, focusing on the idea of protection for women in the light of their experiences of violence both inside and outside the home.

Through shared conversation this project culminated in the design of five dresses made from 'anti-dog', a specialist protective fabric. Embroidered onto the garments, at once tough and elegant, were messages and quotes from the women describing their fears, concerns and hopes for the future. They were worn by participants in a fashion parade through Victoria Square in central Birmingham. Video documentation formed part of the artist's installation in the Dutch Pavillion for the Biennale of Venice 2003.
