press release

Feheley Fine Arts is pleased to present a second solo exhibition for Cape Dorset artist, Annie Pootoogook. Reflections brings together over 50 new drawings that capture the diverse facets of life in the Arctic in the 21st century. Opening July 24th, Reflections is being held in conjunction with the artist’s solo exhibition at The Power Plant, the first public institution to present a solo exhibition of her work.

Pootoogook’s pencil crayon and ink drawings function as instruments of communication that share intimate moments from her life and those around her. In her drawings, the artist depicts everyday activities such as, preparing a meal, taking a nap or watching T.V. She also addresses some of life’s more difficult issues, including mourning the loss of a parent and coping with depression. Most recently, Pootoogook’s work has focused on common household objects such as, clothing, utensils or medications, which she treats as models for reflective still life compositions.

In honour of this special event, Feheley Fine Arts is delighted to announce the exclusive release of, 35/36, our second specially commissioned print by Annie Pootoogook. 35/36 exemplifies the artist’s flair for providing a unique perspective on everyday items. Please contact the gallery for availability.

Please join us for a preview reception of Annie Pootoogook’s newest work on Thursday, June 22nd 5-7 PM and to meet with the artist.
