ARCHEOLOGY OF MIND - MORRA GRECOS FONDATION

A unique venture by Malmö Konstmuseum and Fondazione Morra Greco of Naples, “Archeology of Mind" is the first exhibition ever of works selected solely from the Morra Greco Collection. Devised as a journey through the works of a select group of contemporary artists, some of whom are exhibiting for the first time in Sweden, the works on show reveal an approach that has a philosophical, intimist and private air about it, with inspiration from the outside world. The exhibition takes us on a tour through the archeology of the mind as it appears in their works. This archeology blends personal reminiscences from the past, with Gothic and traditionalist influences, but also visionary ideas close to the world of dreams and to the intellectual fascination of violence. With an ear to memory and an eye to a vision that looks to the past, an apparent lack of present-day relevance in many of the works is actually a conscious means to investigate reality by starting out from sophisticated, subterranean perspectives that are both unpredictable and neglected. Meditation and careful reflection are key aspects in these works, in which wonderment and surprise kick in only at a later stage. This is brought about by a voyage through the cultural adventure we are taken on by the works.
