press release

ARCOlisboa will take place in May 2021

In light of the situation caused by the COVID-19

Lisbon, 17 April 2020. ARCOlisboa has been rescheduled to take place from 13 to 16 May 2021 at the Cordoaria Nacional. A joint decision to postpone the fair was made by the fair's Organising Committee and other parties involved in the organisation of the event.

Given the current situation, it is impossible to guarantee that we will be able to adequately safeguard the health of our exhibitors and visitors, so everyone is focusing on the next edition of ARCOlisboa. The fair will be back as the main attraction for collectors, art professionals and the general public, to which the support and contents of the main institutions and the Lisbon art scene will join.

The organisation is currently working on a selection of online alternatives to optimise and increase the visibility of the galleries that take part in ARCOlisboa.

ARCOlisboa 2021

The Fair will be held in the historic Cordoaria Nacional and it will turn the Portuguese capital, once more, into a meeting point for collectors, galleries, artists and art professionals from around the world. This fifth edition of the Fair will host content from 70 galleries selected by the Organising Committee and curators for different sections.

The General Programme, will comprise national and international galleries whose artistic proposals will ratify their commitment to the quality of the contents. In addition, ARCOlisboa will once again give visibility to the African scene through Africa in Focus section, with participation by galleries from this continent. The Opening programme will also be extended, focusing on young galleries, with the aim of providing new information and contents to the Fair.

ArtsLibris, the space dedicated to contemporary art publications, will return to ARCOlisboa and will be the centre of a new space dedicated to art magazines and proposals from independent spaces. This new project will have a new location that will make it more easily accessible and support the wide range of projects exhibited.

ARCOlisboa is adapting its format with less number of curated programmes, to delve deeper into their content, and it is concentrating the fair into 4 days, in order to reinforce the visibility of the exhibition programme in the city's museums and institutions.
