California-based artist Ari Marcopoulos (b. Amsterdam, the Netherlands, 1957, lives and works in Sonoma, CA) will present an installation of photographs of varying sizes ranging from inkjet prints to photographic c-prints from his family and landscape series. In this new body of work, Marcopoulos attempts to locate an element of “otherness” in the everyday, thereby creating a certain level of detachment in such intimate imagery. His work has been published in The New York Times, Interview, Paper, Blind Spot, Transworld Snowboarding, and Snowboarder. His films include the documentary Larry Wright; a longform video for Beastie Boys; and Key to the Riddle, a documentary on Forrest Bess. Marcopoulos’ photographs have been acquired by the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York. BooksbyMarcopoulosincludePasstheMic: BeastieBoys 1991-1996, 2001andTransitions andExits, 2000.
