David Thorpe’s exploration of his fantasy world began with the construction of intricate sugar-paper cut-out pictures of imagined landscapes and architecture. His practice has evolved in recent years to include three dimensional sculpture and live performance, as well as text poems hung simply on the wall. For Art Now, Thorpe has created an installation which positions the increasingly dense landscape collages - made from a rich variety of materials including paper, wood, glass, dried flowers and slate – alongside sculptural objects. The sculptures are composite models based on the kind of rudimentary dwelling structures or weapons which might have a place in the world of his pictures. The installation is bound together by large-scale wooden screens inset with textured glass which clad and divide the gallery space.

David Thorpe was born in 1972 and lives and works in London.
