18th edition Art Rotterdam attracts 26,500 visitors

The Art Rotterdam art fair that took place during the past five days in the historic Van Nelle Factory was once again a huge success. The 18th edition of this annual and versatile presentation of international, and, mostly recent, art attracted 26,500 art lovers and professionals from the Netherlands and abroad – despite the wintry weather. As the linchpin of the Art Rotterdam Week - an annually recurring festival for culture and contemporary art - the fair has yet again exceeded expectations. Fons Hof: "The programme in the city has made a huge impression on our foreign guests. The opening in both The Kunsthal and Museum Boijmans van Beuningen were spectacular, with works of unprecedented quality".

The sales at this year’s Art Rotterdam were also again very good at both Dutch as well as foreign galleries. ING bank, for example, bought a 2.5 metre high sculpture by artist Matthew Day Jackson at Grimm Gallery for its collection. C & H Gallery has sold all kinetic artworks by artist Zoro Feigl in its stand, including two works to art collector Joop van Caldenborgh’ s Museum Voorlinden, one work to an American collector and various works to Dutch private and company collections. Fons Hof "The market for contemporary art is clearly an upward trend again. Especially noticeable is how active once again the company collections are in the market".

NN Group Art Award
The NN Group Art Award was presented for the first time. This new art award of a value of € 10,000 puts the spotlight on an exceptionally talented artist who has undergone art training in the Netherlands die in Nederland and whose work can be seen at the fair. French brothers Florian & Michael Quistrebert from gallery Juliètte Jongma in Amsterdam have won the first NN Group Art Award. NN Group has also acquired a huge work by the brothers at Art Rotterdam.

IFFR
Art Rotterdam and IFFR showed the film Establishing Eden by artist duo Broersen & Lukács in a jointly created video room in Rotterdam Central Station from 25-12 January. Tens of thousands of train passengers have attended this show.
