press release

Get the whole story about Asger Jorn the artist. An internationally acclaimed artist, Asger Jorn’s work has been exhibited throughout the world. The major spring exhibition of 2014 at the SMK celebrates the 100th anniversary of his birth.

Go to hell with your money bastard That was Asger Jorn’s reply when he won one of the prestigious Guggenheim awards in 1964. The quote is full of the unbridled devil-may-care attitude that is so characteristic of Jorn. Politically active throughout his life, he was unafraid to enter into public frays with other figures on the cultural scene. The approximately 200 works of art on display will give you poignant insights into a rare and unique character within Danish art whose experimental approaches to art and the world continue to feel fresh, brash and bold today.

Absolute masterpieces and rarely seen gems At the exhibition you can see a wide range of Jorn’s masterpieces together with several rarely exhibited works from private collections. The exhibition includes all of Jorn’s many fields of interest, showing examples of his many experiments with sculpture, paintings, prints, ceramics, and literary texts.

The exhibition was created in co-operation with Museum Jorn in Silkeborg, where the exhibition Expo Jorn – Art is a Festival is on from 4 March to 14 September 2014.
