CAROL RAMA 1960–1979

Curated by Mark Godfrey

LGDR Paris is pleased to announce Carol Rama, 1960–1979, the first exhibition dedicated to these preeminent decades in the Italian artist’s career. Rama was a self-taught artist, born in 1918 in Turin, Italy, where she lived for most of her life until her death in 2015. Despite a career that spanned more than seven decades, Rama achieved international recognition late in her life. She received the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement at the Venice Biennale in 2003 and her work continues to influence many artists working today.

Opening on 17 March at 4 Passage Sainte-Avoye, this timely presentation at LGDR Paris follows the 2015 solo show La passion selon Carol Rama curated by Anne Dressen at the Musée d’Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris. Narrowing the focus of that momentous survey on Rama in France, LGDR’s exhibition highlights the artist’s work from the 1960s and ‘70s. Carol Rama, 1960–79 includes unseen historic work as well as material on loan from the artist’s extraordinary home and studio in Turin, including samples of elements used in the works on view and personal records illuminating her artistic and social milieu.
