Yin Baokang was born in 1936 in Hefei, Anhui province. Upon graduation from Arts Department of Northwest Normal University with major in Fine Arts, he became a faculty member of the university, working successively as teaching assistant to such renowned artists as Lv Sibai, Chang Shuhong and Liu Wenqing. In 1972 he was transferred to Arts Department of Hunan Normal University, and now he is professor at Fine Arts Academy of Hunan Normal University, member of China Artists Association, Council Member of China Watercolor Artists Association, and Council Member of Hunan Watercolor Painting Committee. Exploring realistic art and aiming at revealing the true, the good and the beautiful, Yin learned from both Chinese and Western art, looked for the essence of life and nature, and formed a refined, raw, and vigorous style. Titled “Confluence and Transcendence”, this retrospective reflects the pursuit and mentality of Yin in the past six decades. The exhibition situates the artist in the art history of China in the 20th century with an attempt of mapping his art making, study and research in the history of watercolor painting in China in the second half of the 20th century.
