Disco Baroque 27 February - 30 March

Disco Baroque is a kaleidoscopic synaesthesic experience, a vertiginous rollercoaster ride through the mirrorball realm of glitter and shine.

This exhibition engages with contemporary notions relating to the disco culture of the 1970's merged with the ideas of the historical Baroque period. Parallelled today by Glam, Funk and Bling, the Baroque embodied excessive abundance and ornament at a time when new discoveries in science were seen by the masses as potentially threatening.

Disco Baroque is a collision of opulence and decadence cut up with contemporary anxieties provoked by increasing technological change. Six Australian and international artists present a visual interpretation of dizzy dancefloor fervour mixed with the fears and paranoias of a world seemingly out of control.
