EDGAR DEGAS: THE PRIVATE IMPRESSIONIST

Featuring drawings, prints, sculpture, and photographs, all from a single private collection, the exhibition endeavors to illuminate the background and personality of Degas the individual, as well as to present his genius as an artist.

The subject matter of the works is often personal: in addition to three rare self-portraits, the collection includes depictions of family members and friends. Works touch upon three notable themes of his oeuvre: the human body, horse racing, and the ballet.

Enriching the exhibition are a selection of more than forty works on paper by well-known artists, many of whom were friends of Degas, including Mary Cassatt, Paul Cézanne, Jean-Léon Gérôme, Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres, Gustave Moreau, Alfred Stevens, and Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec.

The exhibition was organized by Landau Traveling Exhibitions, Los Angeles, CA, in association with Denenberg Fine Arts, West Hollywood, CA.
