press release

The representation of a world based on the aesthetics of the nasty and the perverse similar to gory movies, and his attraction for the recondite, makes the works of Enrique Marty (Salamanca, Spain, 1969) reflect on the sinister that lies in the familiar and the everyday.

The world of this artist from Salamanca reminds one of the monstrosities which Todd Browning already dealt with in his movie, Freaks, the Parade of the Monsters (1932). Sculptures, oil paintings, drawings, photography that reflect a universe of everyday psychic pathologies. His figures create a dual sentiment: on one hand, it leads one to extreme rejection, and on the other, to a more mysterious attraction. Enrique Marty, who has done incursions into the world of theatre through spectacular backdrops, will create a site-specific project in MUSAC, where all the elements and characteristics of his work will be present. The exhibition is curated by Estrella de Diego, Independent Art Critic and Professor of Art History, member of the Advisory Committee for the MUSAC Collection.
