Frank Brangwyn

Regarded as one of the most significant artists working in his day, Brangwyn 1867-1956 was given the accolade of designing the 1905 British Pavilion for the Venice biennial, from which local collector Sam Wilson acquired the major panel paintings now housed at Leeds City Art Gallery. This exhibition, which marks the 50th anniversary of the artist's death, seeks to re-assess the contribution of this artist to British art of the twentieth century. Brangwyn was involved not only with the formation of the style known as Art Nouveau but was also a leading light in the Arts & Crafts movement and his practice included furniture, ceramic and metalwork design, embracing the belief that art should be part of everyday life.
