press release

From Fair to Fine examines the diverse ways in which photographs are used in books and how similar or different our perceptions of these prints are when viewed on a wall.

Included in the exhibition are: unique books containing original gelatin silver and color photographs; some of our favorite books which are significant but obscure; and entertaining and unusual items by artists such as William Eggleston and Ralph Gibson. The exhibition also includes original photographs of book cover and interior illustrations by: Brassai, Robert Capa, Paul Fusco, André Kertész, Gyorgy Kepes, Susan Meiselas, Ken Ohara, Martin Parr, and Aaron Siskind.

Our 240-page catalog includes 216 publications from six overlapping areas: American photo-graphy, Artists' books, Concerned photography, books identified with the Institute of Design, Japanese photography, and photobooks on Paris. Essays by Anne Dorothee Böhme, Claire Cass, Stephen Daiter, Paul D'Amato, John Gossage, Alex Sweetman, and David Tippit.
