press release

German artist Georg Baselitz has been one of the most important figures in the art world for decades. His work is represented in the most important museums around the world. Our exhibition centers on the young Baselitz’s relationship to the Swedish artists Carl Fredrik Hill, Ernst Josephson, and August Strindberg, who had a great influence on his early work. At the same time, Baselitz provides us an interesting art historical view of these Swedish artists from a contemporary European perspective.

The loan of Georg Baselitz’s work has been made possible with the help of Galleri Bo Bjerggaard in Copenhagen. The works by Carl Fredrik Hill, Ernst Josephson, and August Strindberg have been generously lent by Malmö Konstmuseum, Nationalmuseum, Nordiska Museet, and Prince Eugen’s Waldermarsudde.
