Ghada Amer, visiting artist-in-residence in the spring of 2005, has created a new installation for this one-person exhibition at the Artspace. Born in Egypt and based now in New York, Amer has shown her unique and large-scale hand-embroidered paintings in exhibitions around the world, including the Museum of Contemporary Art in Houston, the Venice Biennale, the Whitney Biennial at the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Kwanju Biennial in South Korea, the Tel Aviv Museum of Art, SITE Santa Fe and the Johannesburg Biennale. The exhibition is curated by Raechell Smith, director, H&R Block Artspace at the Kansas City Art Institute, and will be accompanied by an illustrated brochure with an essay.
