20.02.2018 - 15.04.2018
Opening: 20.02.2018 at the Wańkowicz House, Culture and Art of the First Half of the 19th Century museum, 33 А Internacyjanalnaja Str.

Ivan Shishkin (1832–1898) is an outstanding Russian landscape painter of the second half of the 19th century, whose art was mainly inspired by the Russian forest. The artist is not only famous for his paintings, but also for his graphic works, made in various techniques. Today they are particularly valued by art connoisseurs and historians. The graphic works became an essential part of the works of the artist, who was incredibly talented in drawing. The museum collection presents nearly all the graphic techniques the artist worked in, including graphite pencil drawings, watercolors (rarely made by Shishkin), etchings and pen lithography. Shishkin's drawings are complete sketch compositions with the artist’s signature detailed elaboration of the drawing. Though being sophisticated and photographically accurate, his works do not become a dry record of the form, but encompass all the charm of the artwork.

The exhibition features about 20 paintings and etchings of the artist. All the works are the property of the National Art Museum of the Republic of Belarus, which over half a century have been systematically building a collection of works by Ivan Shishkin.
