Janine Antoni - Touch

For the work Touch, Janine Antoni learned to walk the tightrope. The video is set at the seashore behind her childhood home on the island of Grand Bahama. There she balances parallel to the horizon. The rope is hard to discern, at times it seems as if Antoni is actually balancing on the horizon.

Antoni writes " If I could walk anywhere, where would I walk? And that brought me to the horizon line. Just to be able to balance there for a second was a way of bringing you to that point of desire." The work Touch is a continuation and development of the work Moor which is in the collection of Magasin 3 Stockholm Konsthall. Moor consists of objects from friends and family given to the artist and then tied into a 78 meters long rope. It was made for the exhibition Free Port, 2001 at Magasin 3 Stockholm Konsthall. In the exhibition the rope was winding its way through the space including memories and stories. One end of the rope continued outside and anchored a lifeboat in the harbor. When the work was exhibited at SITE Santa Fe in New Mexico, the rope was extended with 6 meters of new material and new stories. The persons who gave material for the work also submitted stories about what they gave. These stories were not part of the exhibition in 2001 but are now gathered together with images of the rope in a book published by Magasin 3 Stockholm Konsthall and SITE Santa Fe.

Touch is exhibited in room 1 at Magasin 3. Shorter exhibitions with works from, and in relation to, the collection will be held there during the spring.
