Jessica Stockholder - Table Top Sculpture

Table Top Sculpture consists of a group of sculptures the artist has created in her studio, shown together with the work of about thirty other artists she has invited to exhibit with her. These artists are represented by small wall works hung salon style, that become part of the installation along with Stockholder's own work and a set of living room furniture (installation views above).

In this exhibition, Stockholder raises questions about the nature of authorship and the expression of the individual voice. She hopes to evoke simultaneously two different experiences of valuing and understanding art-the grand, spectacular public display of art in the white cube of the gallery, and the quiet reverie associated with a solitary experience and perhaps private ownership.
