press release

Jessica Warboys creates a new set for the presentation of her theatrical film work. Using film, painting, sound and props, the vast gallery space becomes the stage for a performance combining various elements from her films. For 'Ballad of the Green Hoop' Warboys presents a new film and installation work with musical accompaniment made in collaboration with Morten Norbye Halvorsen.

Warboys' practice spans sculpture, painting, film and installation often featuring found objects which are used as a point of departure for visual narratives and documented performances. Materials are often partnered with the elements: the sea in her pigment and large canvas sea paintings and the sun in her object/shadows captured in cyanotypes. When watching her films, where all these disparate elements appear, the viewer can experience an atmosphere of the 'in-between': that space where the emotional and psychological dimensions meet.

'Ballad of the Green Hoop' is supported by the Office for Contemporary Art Norway and the Royal Norwegian Embassy.
