press release

This intimate exhibition will display nine photographs of the master mythmaker and German artist Joseph Beuys. The images document Beuys' Celtic performances that took place in 1970 in Edinburgh, then in April 1971, under the title Celtic+ in Basel. The performances, which involved an intricate ritual of slinging and pouring wax, as well as writing on and erasing a chalkboard, lasted for more than four hours. These hauntingly rendered photographs document the many stages of that performance. The works are on loan from the Wichita Art Museum.
