press release

Júlio Pomar is one of Portugal's best-known artists, with an extremely diversified oeuvre, developed over a career spanning more than 50 years. The exhibition, “Chain of Connection”, focuses on the presence of materials and their structuring relations within the composition of the painting or object. Starting with the artist's work from the 1960s and 1970s (when he began to experiment with collage and assemblage and produced paintings resulting from a confrontation between colour and the raw canvas), the exhibition aims to demonstrate how, right up to the artist’s current production, these processes and techniques have been inextricably linked to the questioning and practices of painting by Júlio Pomar.
