Influential Chicago-based artist Kerry James Marshall whose work is characterised by politically charged references to the African American experience, stages his first solo show in the UK. Combining personal and social history, his large allegorical paintings include figures from voodoo, Christianity and African folk-lore alongside icons of the slave rebellions and the 1960s equal rights struggle.

Curated by Deborah Smith and organised by Camden Arts Centre in association with BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art, The New Art Gallery Walsall and Modern Art Oxford.
