press release

Scenes depicting the daily grind combine with images of rest and enjoyment in vibrant collages, silkscreens, and watercolors as well as detailed sculptures in this exhibition devoted to African-American artists.

Specific moments in time converse with abstract, more conceptual reflections, spanning not only individual viewpoints on the theme of work and rest, but various aspects of art history as well.

Works include Guitarist by Charles White, two sculptures by Leslie Bolling, the watercolor Subway–Home from Work by Jacob Lawrence, and five photographs by James VanDerZee.
