Lee Friedlander: Selected Portraits presents images of children, friends, and celebrities within scenarios that are spatially unusual and visually clever. Although less known for his intimate depictions of people, such portraits have been a component of Friedlander’s oeuvre since the late 1950s when he first worked commercially photographing jazz musicians for album covers. Selected from the 1985 portfolio Lee Friedlander Portraits, these works span the years 1957 to 1983 and represent one of 10 Friedlander portfolios in MOCA’s permanent collection.
