DOUBLE STREET LIGHT
A reading by Theresa Patzschke and Rosa Aiello

On the occasion of the finissage of Linda Semadeni’s exhibition at the Halle für Kunst authors and artists, Rosa Aiello and Theresa Patzschke will read two new texts in a collaborative reading called Double Street Light. “Voiceover” by Rosa Aiello and “Linger on” by Theresa Patzschke weave in and out of each other, elaborating on everyday existentialisms, and how the redoubling of signs, intensities, elements, losses brings not only excess but transformation.
The reading will be held in English.

Linda Semadeni. Sliding through the Corridors

For Sliding through the Corridors, Linda Semadeni (*1985 in Bern, lives and works in Zurich) developed a space-specific floor painting over a period of two weeks in reference to an anecdote by painter Lee Lozano. The words and phrases in the painting are based on a page from one of Lozano’s ringed Notebooks filled with sketches for painting projects, notes, and text-based works.

In the Notebooks, Lozano reproduced a conversation between herself and the curator Kasper König, to whom she attributed the phrase “You are a good painter and a nice girl!”. Lozano replied: “Wrong on both counts, I’m a very good painter and not a nice girl!” It is Lozano’s revision of this statement about the quality of her painting and elusion of attribution that interests Semadeni. Semadeni’s phrases become a kind of mantra, questioning simplified readings and interpretations of feminist slogans within neoliberalism and dissolving them with repetition, stretching, and twisting into a 'bad painting'.

On the occasion of this exhibition, Berlin-based author and musician Theresa Patzschke has produced a text that is available on-site at Halle für Kunst and can also be downloaded online.

As part of the opening our annual summer party will be held in the courtyard of the Halle for Kunst, to which we cordially invite you.
