Kunstmuseum Thun shows with “Hallow Laughter” the first institutional Swiss solo exhibition by the Canadian artist Marcel Dzama (1974). His oeuvre contains detailed ink drawings, objects, videos and installations, which show a fairy-tale-like, comical and sometimes cruel pictorial world. Parallel to Dzamas exhibition, the young Swiss artist positions Augustin Rebetez and U5 will be represented with smaller solo shows. The artist collective U5 combines in the exhibition “Parasite” photography, video, sculptures and painting in a comprehensive installation to fantastic universes. Augustin Rebetez (1986), born in Jura, creates in “if our dreams trickle down your umbrella, the weather is nice“ through his anarchic installation a labyrinth of words, pictures and symbols. The artists represented at the exhibitions deal autonomously and in depth with today‘s world images and genre pictures and draw mostly from the mundane and banal. The illustrations by Albrecht Dürer of the medieval vers poem „Das Narrenschiff” (Ship of Fools) (1494) by Sebastian Brant extend the exhibitions as an art historical insert and reinforce also the awareness of the excesses of society.
