press release

Our Work is a group exhibition investigating how work organises our life and defines our character. Today salaried work does not only determine not the amount of time we work; it also creates roles and lifestyles that profoundly affect what we speak of as our leisure, our values and our life. The exhibition references this regulation of existence through work, but also how work is used as a political tool.

The title, Our Work, alludes to the history of Lunds konsthall. A group exhibition with the same title was produced in 1978. It showed mostly images of the working body, and mainly from a Swedish perspective. In 2016 Our Work adopts two approaches: one starting from today and one from the late 1970s. The exhibition moves between the dichotomies of the Cold War and the globalised view of the contemporary world, between the pioneers of the women’s movement and feminist sensibilities today.
