Paris 1400 - Art during the reign of Charles VI Between the 14th and 15th centuries, Paris, capital of the kingdom of France, grew to become the most flourishing intellectual and artistic center in Europe. During this period of political and economic turmoil overshadowed by the Hundred Years' War, ommissions from the wealthiest patrons encouraged the development of a delicate and refined art, also fostering iconographic and stylistic innovations. The best artists, whether native-born or expatriates, gave free rein to their talents. This exhibition brings together two hundred seventy works employing various techniques, demonstrating the extraordinary heights achieved by artistic production in Paris in the 1400s. Illuminated manuscripts and enameled gold are the predominant techniques on display. Several other exhibitions throughout France will testify to the generosity of the fleur de lis princes of the 1400s. Pressetext
